The entrance wall. Large tiles of custom produced curved tiles from Shigaraki. One of the oldest and most important ceramics regions in Japan. The tiles are an inovative shape designed to cast shadoes as lit from below. The heavily textured clay is typical of the region. They are unglazed but fired in a wood kiln so colors and textures come wood ash flying randomly around the kiln and bonding to the clay.
Their stores are always the most beautiful, here and in Japan. The clothes are also nice.
