KOBO-SHOBU KAGOSHIMA JAPAN

Kobo-shobu is a traditional Japanese craft center for developmentally disabled (Down Syndrome and severely autistic mostly) adults in Kagoshima.

About half of the craftspeople live on-site, the other half live with their families and spend their days there.

The ones we met were wonderful. I am not convinced about the wisdom of letting them work with power tools, the Japanese apparently have a very different attitude about liability.

For me, the woodwork was the most interesting, I expect to receive a shipment from there soon. They also have an embroidery workshop, ceramics studio, washi-paper studio, bakery and store.
